Interpolated Free Group Factors

The interpolated free group factors L(Fr) for 1 < r ≤ ∞, (also defined by F. Rădulescu) are given another (but equivalent) definition as well as proofs of their properties with respect to compression by projections and free products. In order to prove the addition formula for free products, algebraic techniques are developed which allow us to show R∗R ∼= L(F2) where R is the hyperfinite II1–fac...

Bisets as Categories and Tensor Product of Induced Bimodules

Bisets can be considered as categories. This note uses this point of view to give a simple proof of a Mackey-like formula expressing the tensor product of two induced bimodules. AMS subject classification (2000) : 16D20, 20C20.

Strongly Solid Group Factors Which Are Not Interpolated Free Group Factors

We give examples of non-amenable ICC groups Γ with the Haagerup property, weakly amenable with constant Λcb(Γ) = 1, for which we show that the associated II1 factors L(Γ) are strongly solid, i.e. the normalizer of any diffuse amenable subalgebra P ⊂ L(Γ) generates an amenable von Neumann algebra. Nevertheless, for these examples of groups Γ, L(Γ) is not isomorphic to any interpolated free group...

Maximal Injective Subalgebras of Tensor Products of Free Group Factors

In this article, we proved the following results. Let L(F (ni)) be the free group factor on ni generators and λ(gi) be one of standard generators of L(F (ni)) for 1 ≤ i ≤ N . Let Ai be the abelian von Neumann subalgebra of L(F (ni)) generated by λ(gi). Then the abelian von Neumann subalgebra ⊗i=1Ai is a maximal injective von Neumann subalgebra of ⊗i=1L(F (ni)). When N is equal to infinity, we o...

Bimodules over Operads Characterize Morphisms

Let P be any operad. A P-bimodule R that is a P-cooperad induces a natural “fattening” of the category of P-(co)algebras, expanding the morphism sets while leaving the objects fixed. The morphisms in the resulting R-governed category of P-(co)algebras can be viewed as morphisms “up to R-homotopy” of P-(co)algebras. Let A denote the associative operad in the category of chain complexes. We defin...
